BUILDING A NEW FOUNDATION

Imagine landscapes that are  ecologically abundant and teeming with life, whether they are farmed or not.

Imagine a food system that can feed us with nutrient dense produce at everyday supermarket prices.

Imagine eating food that is nutrient rich, seasonal and grown locally, everywhere.

Imagine a farming system that improves with time storing carbon for generations.

We can do more than imagine: we make this happen.

OUR MISSION

They say you can either have cheap food or healthy  food.

At New Foundation Farms, we know that we can all have both

To make this possible, we are building the intelligence that will power the transformation of our stewardship of ecosystems.  That means we can produce food in a way that supports our soils, our communities and our health.

Advances in our understanding of ecology mean we can assess the health of land anywhere relative to its full ecological potential.

And the way we measure can give us context specific solutions for what we need to do to get better outcomes.

That is pretty cool, but it is just the start

We can take that information and use it to determine actions which not only make nature healthier, but also make, for example, farms more profitable.

We call this comprehensive information and management system The Keystone.

It combines three things that can unleash a transformation in food, farming and land management at scale.

  • It is focussed on outcomes, not formulaic inputs or methods.

  • It is comprehensive and context specific, not partial and generic.

  • It provides information which informs the management decisions needed to further improve the economic and ecological result at the same time.

It works anywhere where sunlight, water, minerals and life come together. It works in forests, fields, lakes, streams and oceans. It works everywhere.

Our goal is to make The Keystone available to everyone involved in the food system and land management

Here are some of the folks it can support, and how:

Farmers: Better ecological outcomes AND more profitable farming

Investors: Investment and asset management decisions, creating the potential for a new asset class in land

Food system wholesalers, processors and retailers: Robust clarity and certainty about the ecological performance of supply chains

Banks: De risking lending to land and food enterprises and scope 3 emissions improvement

Natural capital markets:  Reliable, long-term robust purchases of carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and water quality and function

Consumers/citizens: Transparency and agency to make better decisions on healthier food

Policy makers: Better subsidies, incentives and regulations

Welcome to The Keystone. In the coming months our website will evolve as we turn The Keystone into business products and services which open the door for radical natural food, farming and land stewardship at scale.
